Dollar Store Craft: Lei Wreath
This project could easily be called the ‘Under 5 minute Wreath’ because that’s about how long it took me to put these together.
These grapevine wreath forms have been sitting in my craft stash for quite a while. The white ones were purchased two years ago at the Dollar Tree. They were originally a dark color, but I spray painted them white for a different project I did last year. The larger wreath was purchased several years ago at Hobby Lobby.
Supplies Needed:
- Dollar Store Lei
- Grapevine Wreath forms
- Wire
- Wire cutter
- scissors
- hot glue gun
- ribbon of choice
Cut the lei to the length you want to use. The flowers are strung on string with plastic tube pieces separating some of the flowers. I simply cut one of the tubes in half. Instead of trying to knot the string to keep the strand from falling apart, I used a hot glue gun to seal each end.
The hot glue was an easy quick solution. You can see the string end sticking out of the flower in this picture and the bead of hot glue I added.
Initially, I cut the lei into two equal pieces, one for each wreath I was making.
The lei pieces were easily attached to the grapevine wreath with the wire pieces I cut. Ribbon was used to hang the finished wreath on my cabinet doors.
The wreath was pretty, but not quite the look I was going for. I took it down and cut a smaller section of the lei, again hot gluing the string in each end to secure it. This smaller section of the lei was enough to cover just the bottom half of the wreath.
Both versions were cute, but I liked this look better for my kitchen.
The two finished wreaths were attached to my glass front kitchen cabinet doors with a length of ribbon.
Command hooks can be used on the inside of the cabinet door to hang the ribbon from, however, I didn’t have command hooks, so I secured the wreaths with painters tape. I did the same thing for the Christmas wreath’s I made for the kitchen last year and it worked like a charm. One of these days I’ll remember to pick up a couple of command hooks because I do like hanging seasonal wreaths on my cabinet doors.
I’m so pleased with how these turned out and they couldn’t be simpler to make.
The colorful lei I purchased was attached to the large grapevine wreath with wire. This lei was not cut, just attached to the large grapevine wreath. Wouldn’t this look great on a deck or patio for a summer party?
